Coelus ski boot concept by Árpád Takács

Young Hungarian designer Árpád Takács was quite enthralled when world-renowned designer Karim Rashid praised him for his Coelus Skiboot Concept during his visit to Budapest this February to deliver a full presentation on his works at the auditorium of MOME University of Art and Design. Karim pretty much liked the concept and called Takács a painter because of his expressive lines and form. The Coelus ski boots draw inspiration from the amazing form of glaciers and icy mountaintops. Coelus (or Caelus) was a primal god of the sky in Roman myth and theology, iconography and literature. The gorgeous ski boots grabbed the first prize in the Dalbello Ski boots competition.


Besides the stunning lines, the innovative Coelus boot gives the skier the freedom of flying, jumping and gliding, just like a snowboard because of its two separate parts. The soft inner shoe is for the comfort, and the hard outer shell accounts for stability and protection. Árpád Takács hopes his Coelus ski boots will go into production someday. Árpád Takács is studying industrial design at the Hungarian Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design.
